The project: The Recovery College Research Project is about planning, implementing, and evaluating two Recovery College pilot sites -- one with Vancouver Coastal Health’s Consumer Initiatives Program and one with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Vancouver-Fraser and North and West Vancouver’s Peer Navigator Programs. A Recovery College is a unique learning centre where people with lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use issues; such as peers, family members, and mental health professionals use their knowledge and experience to work collaboratively and on equal terms to co-develop and co-deliver courses on a range of topics that support well-being and recovery. Where advisors fit in: The Recovery College Pilot project has people with lived or living experience of mental health and substance use issues (PWLE) as part of the overall project steering committee, engaged as research assistants, and as program educators. Now we are forming a Peer Advisory Committee to also hear from folks who will be interested in attending Recovery College courses, in particular people with lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use issues.
